Owning a puppy is a big responsibility. It is of utmost importance to protect the pup from sickness and other risks. During the first several months, there are vaccinations (shots) that your pet must have to ensure overall good health.
The Standard Puppy Shot
These series of vaccines for your puppy normally begins from 6 to 8 weeks old. After every 3 to 4 weeks, new boosters and shots are administered, up to the time the pet reaches 17 weeks old.

However, puppy shot series are not the same for all types of dog breeds. For example, the tan and black breeds may require boosters up to 20 weeks of age. Your vet will tell you what kinds of vaccinations your specific puppy needs and when.

The following are factors that determine the date and frequency of the puppy shots:
  • The status of immunity and vaccination of the dog mom.
  • The duration that the puppy was nursed.
  • What shots did the puppy has from the shelter, breeder, or from its original location.
  • The number of puppies in the litter.
  • The level of cleanliness of the place the puppy came from.
  • The age of the puppy.

Vaccines For Puppies Are Long-Term
When your puppy has completed the initial series of vaccines, it does not stop there. Throughout the life of your dog, it will need some booster shots. The lifestyle of the dog, the way it lives within your care, the frequency of its travel, are among the factors that determine the types and intervals of these boosters.

What Vaccines Are Important For Puppies
  • Core Vaccines. There are certain diseases of dogs that can be infectious and fatal. These include rabies, canine hepatitis, distemper, and parvo. Core vaccines can prevent the occurrence of these conditions.
  • Non-core Vaccines. These kinds of vaccines are not always recommended to puppies to due to various reasons. The condition of the puppy could be less risky, or in limited distribution. Having non-core vaccines, your puppy can avoid parainfluenza, influenza, lepto, kennel cough, and Lyme disease.

While the puppy shots cannot guarantee the optimal health of your pet, they can greatly help lower the risks of infections and its longevity.

Your best source of correct information is your vet. They have the expertise and have completed the necessary medical training.

Conclusion
Take care of your new puppy the best way that you can. Since your pet is part of your family, review your homeowner's insurance to see if it covers your pet.  At Berlin & Denys Insurance, we take pride in making sure that our clients are well-protected at prices they can afford. It's good to know that dogs need occasional booster shots even after they've gotten all the initial vaccines they need. My sister and her husband want to find a vet in their area before adopting a dog from a shelter this weekend. I'll share this info so they can find a vet that offers all the vaccines and boosters their new dog will need in the fuutre!

I am thankful that this post underlined that one of the perks of pet vaccination is that it is long-term care for our pets. It makes sense for us to have our pets vaccinated as it protects our pets from diseases. Since I am planning to adopt, I will definitely look into having the puppy vaccinated.

It helped when you mentioned that new boosters are offered after every 3 to 4 weeks. My sister mentioned to me that she is planning to have her pet vaccinated and asked if I have any idea what is the best option to do. Thanks to this informative article and I'll be sure to tell her that she can consult a well-known veterinary service as they can answer all her inquiries and will provide good care of her pet.

The most helpful segment of this article was definitely the part where you talked about which vaccines are core to puppy care. Learning about this could matter a lot when I finally become an owner so I'm prepared to handle any kind of illness or disease that might trouble my first companion. I'll make sure I pay a lot of attention to these when I adopt a puppy from a local pet store.

In most places, including New York, immunization against rabies is mandated by law. Owners are required to regularly vaccinate their dogs and pups against rabies, however the precise timing of puppy and dog immunizations varies by jurisdiction. In New York, puppies are typically vaccinated against rabies between weeks 14 and 16 (but not sooner than week 12), and the vaccine is effective for a year. The rabies vaccination is effective for adult dogs for three years, and it should be discussed on the initial appointment for new patients. A dog, for instance, would have the rabies shot at 14 weeks, 1 year, and then once more at age 4.
