Your washer and dryer are considered sophisticated household appliances, hence among the costly ones. They also require the right maintenance. If you care for them properly, they give long-lasting performance and service in return.
Importance Of Proper Installation
The manuals of your washer and dryer indicate what kind of electrical outlet should be used. To ensure safety, it is highly recommended that you let a professional do the installation job.

Check The Vent Regularly
The vent of the dryer is usually placed outside the house. Inspect it on a regular basis and check if the vent is releasing air as you dry your clothes inside the appliance.

Inspect The Exhaust Duct
The duct is the something that connects from the back part of the dryer, to the vent outside your wall. The exhaust duct is prone to debris and lint. Make sure it is free of such blockages. Seek the advice of a professional before you tinker with your exhaust duct dryer.

Learn How To Care For Your Washer And Dryer

Washers
  • Clean the unit after using it. Check if your machine comes with a self-clean cycle. If yes, run it.
  • Keep the detergent dispenser clean.
  • Immediately after using it, air it out by keeping the lid open for a couple of hours.
  • Do not put wet clothes inside and leave them there.

Dryers
  • A duct that is made of metal is preferable than the one that is made of vinyl. The metal one has lower risks of fire.
  • Pinch or crimp your duct to allow the air run freely.
  • After every load in the dryer, clear out the lint build-up in the lint catcher.
  • Your lint catcher needs cleaning at least every three months for smooth airflow.
  • Hire professionals to clean your ducts at least once every year.

Basic Safety Tips For Using Washer And Dryer
  • Do not leave your washer or dryer to run by itself when nobody is in the house, or you are all sleeping.
  • Maintain a clear area surrounding the machine. Clear out boxes, bins, clutter, etc.
  • Don't put items on top of the appliance.
  • It is not advisable to overload the machine every time you use either your washer or dryer.
  • Read the operating instructions of the manufacturer. It is best to follow them to avoid causing damage to the machine or any kind of hazard.

Conclusion
If you want your washer and dryer to work for a long time, do the necessary maintenance and observe proper usage. Check with your agent if these household appliances are included in flood insurance.
