Technological advancements and past experiences made communities a safer place during a strong typhoon. However, there are instances where a flood threatens to destroy homes without warning. You need to stay prepared when all flood-proof methods fail, and you find yourself stuck inside your two-story home. If the water breaks into your home, you need to follow safety tips that could save your life.
Avoid the Water at All Costs
The flood rushing into your home is not a welcome sight. However, people often get attached to their items that they would risk going ankle-deep into the water to get it. Walking through flowing water can knock you off balance, which could result in concussion or drowning. If the flood rises to six inches, you may find yourself getting swept away by the strong current of flood water. Water will also reach the electrical plugs, sockets, and loose wires around the house, which will electrocute you.

Climb to Safety
When flood water enters your home, it is safe to assume that it is no longer secure outside of the house. Despite remaining trapped inside the house, you must do what you can to climb up to safety. You need to evacuate to the second floor to avoid injury or death. Avoiding low and flooded areas will decrease the chances of drowning as well.

Prevent Flood from Reaching the Second Floor
Getting to high ground is the priority when flood enters your house. However, it is essential for you to prevent water from getting to the same level as you. When you start to feel threatened by the amount of rain going into your house, you need to barricade yourself within the second floor. You also need to shut off electricity, gas, and water. If you have flotation devices available, you need to prepare yourself for a dangerous way of surviving.

Nobody wants to experience flooding inside their homes. However, calamity disasters are out of our control. The only way to prevent injury and death during those times is preparation. Try to remain alert and keep your necessary items like first aid kits, home insurance, and survival backpacks at home. Being prepared before, during, and after floods will increase your chances of survival and help you remain calm when the calamity hits.
